Chipping Norton celebrates 400th anniversary with a special brew

On 27 February 27 1606 King James I Granted the town of Chipping Norton a Charter of incorporation initiating local government by allowing the borough to govern itself. And to celebrate this anniversary Hook Norton has brewed a very special beer Charter 400.

The 4.5 per cent ABV brew uses – three hops - Fuggles and Goldings in the copper, Cluster in the hop back and a Maris Otter Grist. “It has come out quite pale, though not as pale as Hooky Gold, with a wonderful citrus/grapefruit nose,” said the beer’s brewer James Clarke.

“I have found it goes very well with cheese - especially the bottled version,” he said. The beer is available in bottles from Hook Norton’s online shop or direct from the Visitors Centre at the brewery.
