New tenants at Bird in Hand
Annie Henderson and Mark Miles plan to make the right moves at the Bird in Hand in Newbold on Stour, Warwickshire.
For as the new tenants at the village of Newbold on Stour’s local they reckon they will be a winning combination and ensure the Hook Norton owned pub stays at the heart of community life. “The Bird in Hand is a family-friendly community pub, which welcomes people of all ages,” said Annie Henderson.
Children and families are more than welcome at the pub and already one family has already booked the pub’s attractive and enclosed garden for a two-year-olds birthday party – where they will find a variety of garden games – including chess - to entertain all ages.
Inside the pub has three distinct areas for drinking, dining and games – with teams competing in darts, Aunt Sally, dominies and quiz leagues – and the couple hope that a pool team will soon be formed. “We will support village activity,” said Annie.
“The food will be home-cooked. Using local ingredients and will be very traditional,” she said. Menu items include a classic ham, egg and chips; cod in a beer batter and a hearty mixed grill – while vegetarians can enjoy a broccoli and cream cheese bake.
The traditional Sunday lunch should at £5.95 be a big hit, and it could be an even bigger hit with children and senior citizens who can have it for £3.95. There will be a folk music session on the 1st & 3rd Sunday evenings of the month.
The Bird in Hand is ideally located between the popular tourist attractions at Stratford on Avon and the picturesque market town of Shipston on Stour. It is also within easy reach of Warwick and its famous castle and the racecourses at Warwick and Stratford.
Within easy reach of the M40 and other major through routes the Bird in Hand provides the ideal place to stop off, relax and enjoy.
