Carpenters becomes a virtual community pub

Customers of the Carpenters Arms in Lower Boddington, Northamptonshire like each others company so much they have set up a page on the facebook website - where they can meet wherever they are in the world to catch up on gossip about the pub.

The Carpenters is one of the first pubs in the country to have a presence on this virtual chatroom. Licensee Mark Higgs said: “We are now a proper community local, both in real life and now in the virtual world. “My customers have set up the Carps Loyal Customers Society on so that they get all the latest news, pictures and gossip about the Carpenters, from anywhere in the world.

“You will need to become a member of facebook to join the Carps Loyal Customers Society group. Then you will be able to add your own photos, chat or just catch up on what’s going on.” The group should have plenty to talk about as Mark, together with the pub’s owner Hook Norton, has increased the size of the Carpenters dining area and turned an unused room into a new kitchen.

“Our menu has stayed the same – offering good pub made with ingredients sourced from local farmers and other suppliers. Particularly popular are our Sunday lunches,” said Mark Higgs. And for people wanting a quick bite during weekday lunchtimes the Carpenters is offering a freshly cooked soup with either a sandwich or a bowl of chips for a fiver.

With many angling societies using the nearby Boddington and Claydon reservoirs for fishing competitions, Mark is planning to offer pre-booked organised groups – a full cooked breakfast, and he will even arrange for packed lunches to be delivered to the bank side, while they are competing.
