New Inn offers a taste of the Caribbean.
Fancy a taste of Caribbean chicken and a glass of Hooky Bitter? Or would you prefer an Old Hooky with a goat curry? The New Inn, Abthorpe in Northamptonshire might only be a few miles from Banbury, but it is offering a Caribbean menu from thousands of miles away. On Monday and Tuesday evening customers at the pub can enjoy meals prepared by Caribbean cook Gladys Benjamin, who now lives in Towcester. New Inn licensee Jane Costall said: “Our first Caribbean cuisine evening was a huge success with many braving the wet weather to sample the delights of the Caribbean.
“Among other dishes served were salt fish with ackee, jerk pork and jerk chicken, oxtail with butter beans, not forgetting the Jamaican Rum cake and delicious rum punch.” And what should you drink with Caribbean food. Jane Costall has a firm favourite.
“I would recommend Old Hooky with the goat curry, it compliments the dish very well,” she said. And Jane hopes that customers will not be put off by the use of lots of spices. “The dishes are not hot, just very tasty,” she said.
Most main meals on the menu are £8.00, and they are served with either roasted Caribbean vegetables or green salad. The Caribbean menu will be offered every Monday and Tuesday evening from 6.30 onwards. Booking is advised.
