Three cronies take on the Conies
Three friends are the new licensees of The Three Conies, Thorpe Mandeville. The trio of amigos - Jacqueline Carey, Kieran Biswell and David Hodgkins - are the new people behind the bar at this Hook Norton pub, in the pretty village of Thorpe Mandeville.
“We are a proper pub, and not just a restaurant, we want to bring the community together,” said Kieran Biswell. The threesome have devised an innovative way of getting locals together in the pub’s spacious garden on Friday nights. Each Friday customers will get a chance to eat their way around the world as the pub’s chef David Hodgkins will prepare a dish from a different country.
The most recent was a Moroccan Tagine evening. A lemon chicken Tagine with a sun dried tomato cous cous salad was served for only £4.00 per plate. “We will be trying out the foods of the world, and all for £4.00 a plate,” said Kieran.
If the international cuisine doesn’t tempt you, the pub’s restaurant, which is open every day, offers a fantastic choice of freshly prepared dishes, made with locally sourced seasonal ingredients.
“We serve traditional pub food, with a modern twist, at affordable prices,” said David. Children will have the opportunity to try his cooking too. There are no chicken nuggets on a special children’s menu at the Three Conies. Child-sized portions are prepared of all the dishes on the pubs menu.
The menus are adventurous and ever changing, offering the tastes, colours, aromas and flavours of the world but using locally sourced ingredients.
The dining room is ideal for business meetings, parties and wedding celebrations. The garden is large enough to house a marquee for larger celebrations.
