Oct 2011

Back in October 2011, Hook Norton Brewery was contacted by a photographer who had been commissioned by Royal Mail to take photos with the theme ‘Working Horses’.  The photographer wanted to use a dray horse in his collection and as Hook Norton is one of only four Breweries in the country to have dray horses, arrangements were made for him to shoot Roger, the drayman making a beer delivery.

Nov 2011

Harold Batten, the photographer and a colleague arrived to spend the day with Roger taking photos. It was was a freezing cold winter day, and they spent several hours perfecting the shot.

Oct 2012

Royal Mail made a final choice for the dray horse image but told the Brewery, that in line with their policy on living people, they would have to disguise the driver’s identity.

April 2013

Hook Norton Brewer approved the artwork ready for Production for the Working Horse stamps to be issued 4th Feb 2014.
