Meet The Hop Grower….A GREAT NIGHT!
Pictured from left to right: Mark Andrews, James Clarke and Paul Corbett.
The evening started at 6.45pm with a whistle stop tour of Hook Norton Brewery and was followed by an extremely interesting and informative presentation by Mark Andrews from The Corn Mill Hop Farm in Hereford and Paul Corbett of Charles Faram Hop merchants. With flair, panache and a clear passion, the pair entertained some 50 people at The Visitor Centre enthusing about British hops; their history, what is currently happening within the hop world and also what the future holds.
James Clarke, Managing Director at the Brewery said ‘We have always been passionate about the provenance of the raw materials used in our beer, Charles Faram have been supplying us hops since my Great, Great Grandfather started the Brewery. Hops are a key ingredient, responsible for producing the bitterness and aromas in our beers making it essential that we only use the best. Among other varieties, Mark is responsible for producing English Cascade, he is the first grower to do so in the U.K. With the history that we have with Charles Faram, it seemed only fitting that we become the first Brewery to use it. The aromas from this extraordinary hop inspired me to produce our latest beer Lion.
Many thanks to Mark and Lesley Andrews and also Paul Corbett for a great night!
