The world of hook norton brewery

A new year, a new range of handcrafted ales brewed by us for you to enjoy, these limited edition brews will appear alongside our regular core beers each month. We hope you like them as much as we enjoyed the brewing, tasting, tweaking and more tasting process!

We start the year with a cheer and a beer. Playing our January Joker (4.0%). A dry beer for a dry January – this cheeky little chap is stuffed full of playful Jester hops crafting an intense, punchy aroma with notes of grapefruit and tropical fruit delivering a light and dry finish.

Giving up beer in January, try a stout instead! Double Stout (4.8%). Brewed from the original 1898 recipe black malt gives and enriches the dark, ebony colour and delivers an unmistakable ‘toast’ flavour alongside hints of chocolate, coffee and caramel whilst brown Malt adds the dryness. Best enjoyed with a rich chocolate brownie (unless you are giving that up as well!)

February brings rugby and we’ll have the perfect pint to help you celebrate or commiserate. Nice Try (3.8%). Crouch, bind and drink (responsibly of course!) this smooth malty, light fruit aroma amber beer. Beautifully balanced this easy drinking ale will support you for the full 80 minutes and beyond.

Come Easter we are eggcited about the return of our popular Hop To It (3.8%) the perfect blend of Challenger and Jester Hops.

May brings with it another celebration. Last year we celebrated 167 years of brewing here at Hooky by brewing one beer at 6.7%. This year, and we’re sure you can work out where this is going….we’ll be brewing 168 (6.8%)!

We have four shire horses helping us deliver beer the traditional way so we will be brewing a beer in the shire to celebrate our shires. Mane Tail (3.7%). A crafty trio of UK hops – Jester, Chinook and Cascade delivering refreshing lychees, minty green tea and a subtle splattering of pineapple.

Here’s hoping July heralds the start of a great British summer so while the sun shines we’ll be brewing some Haymaker (5.0%). A strong pale ale with plenty of Goldings hops giving it extra character, like sunshine dancing on the tongue!

Still toiling in the fields into August we’ll be providing refreshment for all those thirsty workers with Harvest Hop (3.9%). Light and fruity with a cosmopolitan hop burst.

As the September nights begin to draw in, may we recommend Copper Ale (3.9%). Rich and red with a twist of plummy fruits, the perfect pint with which to settle down with in front of a roaring fire and maybe a plate of Shepherd’s Pie – lovely!

October arrives and finds our strong, zesty and full flavoured Indian Pale Ale (IPA) Flagship (5.3%) setting sail from the brewery. Admiral hops give a fruity mouth feel with marmalade richness and a citrus explosion on the tongue.

Honkingly good ale will be flying out of the brewery come November to ease you gently into the Christmas spirit. Greedy Goose (4.2%) a dark copper ale with an aroma of soft dark fruits with hints of blackcurrant. Rich to the palate with a dry and nutty taste, a great beer for both the goose and the gander.

Last but by no means least, forget the appearance of that red lorry, or the tear jerking department store advert, here at Hooky we know it’s getting closer to Christmas when Twelve Days (5.5%) is in the cellar.  A strong dark beer with rich fruity flavours of dark fruit, malt and caramel with nutty overtones. Enjoy it with a strong robust cheddar cheese and plenty of Christmas cheer.
