Local Pub Celebrates 8 Years at the Heart of the Community with 88 Free Lunches

The Sun Inn at Hook Norton , Oxfordshire – A much-loved village pub is celebrating eight successful years at the heart of the community by giving something back in a meaningful way.

Mark Higgs owner of award winning Freespirit Pubs, who has held the Hook Norton tenancy for the past eight years, ran by Rebecca Hall, General Manager who operates pub day-to-day, are marking this milestone by hosting a special event: the gift of 88 free lunches to members of the local community on Friday 22nd May.

The celebration will bring together a wide range of residents, including the village Widows Group, volunteers from Hooky Neighbours who provide vital support to older residents such as collecting prescriptions, shopping, and transport to appointments and those who benefit from their care, including individuals with mobility challenges or who may otherwise feel isolated. Guests will also include members of the local pantry and food bank initiative.
The event is designed not only to celebrate the pub’s anniversary, but to strengthen the bonds within the community by bringing together people of all ages and circumstances, particularly those who may experience loneliness or require additional support.

“Running a village pub over the past eight years has been incredibly rewarding, but not without its challenges,” said the Rebecca. “Like many in the hospitality industry, we’ve faced difficult times, but the support of our community has always kept us going. This felt like the perfect way to say thank you and bring people together.”

The initiative has also been made possible thanks to the generosity of local suppliers, many of whom have donated or discounted food for the occasion. Their support highlights the strong network of local businesses working together to make a positive difference.

The Sun Inn has long been more than just a pub it has become a hub for connection, support, and community spirit in Hook Norton. This celebration reflects its ongoing commitment to playing a meaningful role in village life.
