Brewer (6 Month Contract)

Location: Hook Norton Brewery, Oxfordshire
Contract: 6-month, full-time contract – Hours: 44 hours per week
Salary: Negotiable, depending on whether live-in accommodation is required
Accommodation: Live-in facilities available on site

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Brewer to join our team on a 6-month contract.

The Role

Reporting to the Brewery Supervisor, you will play a key role across the brewing and production process. You will take responsibility for wort production, fermentation monitoring, yeast management, cellar operations, filtration and packaging, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, hygiene and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Brewhouse Operations

• Operate all brewhouse processes, including milling, mashing, boiling and wort cooling. Monitor brewing processes to ensure consistency and quality.

Yeast & Fermentation

• Manage yeast harvesting, pitching and cell counts. Monitor fermentation performance and maintain accurate records.

Laboratory & Quality

• Carry out routine laboratory checks, including pH, gravity, colour, IBU and microbiological testing. Complete quality checks and production documentation accurately. Support audits and New Product Development (NPD) projects.

Cellar Operations

• Carry out beer transfers and cellar operations. Manage dry hopping and filtration processes. Maintain high standards of cellar hygiene and organisation.

Packaging

• Carry out cask cleaning and racking. Undertake kegging and associated packaging activities.

Hygiene & Sanitation

• Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the brewery. Carry out Clean-in-Place (CIP) activities and other cleaning procedures. Ensure equipment and working areas are maintained safely and efficiently.

Safety & Continuous Improvement

• Champion safe working practices and comply with all Health & Safety policies. Follow brewery Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Contribute to continuous improvement across brewing and production operations.

Brand Representation

• Represent Hook Norton Brewery at brewery tours, tastings and events when required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about brewing and enjoys working in a practical, hands-on production environment.

Experience

• Practical brewing experience is desirable. Transferable experience within food, beverage, production or manufacturing environments will also be considered.

Skills & Attributes

• Strong attention to detail. A commitment to quality, food safety and high standards. Good understanding of hygiene and safe working practices. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Enthusiastic, reliable and willing to get involved across all areas of the brewery. A genuine interest in producing great beer and continuously improving brewing processes.

Chef

As a valued member of the team, you will need to ensure that our customer’s orders are delivered quickly, tasty and safely, and be a champion of the Brewery.

Working in our busy Malthouse Kitchen you’ll be

• Working with quality, locally sourced ingredients
• Bringing a little Hooky character to our menus
• Maintaining excellent kitchen and food hygiene standards

Picker and Packer – SEASONAL ROLE

Christmas is one of our busiest times of the year, and we’re looking for a picker and packer to help get our online orders and on their way.

Your role will include:

• Picking and packing online orders accurately
• Preparing Christmas gifts and beer orders for dispatch
• Checking orders, labels and paperwork
• Helping make sure orders are ready for collection on time
• Supporting the team during the busy Christmas rush.
