Hook Norton Brewery is delighted to announce its contribution to the resounding success of Witney and District Swimming Club’s 50th-anniversary celebration, held last Saturday, July 5th, at Cokethorpe School in Witney. The milestone event saw over 260 attendees and successfully raised an impressive £2,000 through its raffle, with the Brewery’s donated Pale Ale proving to be a particularly popular prize.

The vibrant occasion brought together swimmers, families, and volunteers spanning the club’s rich history, joined by over 30 dedicated volunteers and performers.

Witney Mayor, Andy Bailey, officially opened the festivities, which had a lively, festival-like atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a diverse array of entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening, including outdoor games, interactive cocktail-making sessions, captivating cabaret acts, a talented magician, and engaging musical bingo. Local artists also contributed to the celebratory mood with their performances.

The event acknowledged key club sponsors, Rob Mead of WM Air Conditioning and Paul Merrell of Merrell Mechanical, for their ongoing support. A special birthday cake, provided by The Cake Shop, added to the celebratory spirit.

Marzena, representing the swimming club, expressed immense gratitude for the brewery’s support, stating, “We have managed to raise £2,000 from the raffle prizes which will help us immensely. The Pale Ale you’ve donated was one of the most popular drinks. Thank you again.”

Thank you so much, we had a blast.”

Witney and District Swimming Club currently boasts over 170 members, ranging in age from eight to over 80 years old. Members train at both Witney and Carterton Leisure Centres, actively competing at county, regional, and national levels. The club plans to continue its 50th-anniversary celebrations throughout the year with a variety of promotional activities.
