Hook Norton know their grapes as well as hops!

On Tuesday 25th February, a team from Hook Norton Brewery were victorious in the wine tasting competition hosted by the Worshipful Company of Brewers.

A crack team of five, representing retail, pubs and brewing proved that not only are we top beer tasters, but we also have a wide appreciation and knowledge of wine.

Held at the prestigious Brewers Hall in the City of London, and hosted by Pol Roger, the team had to taste eight different wines, and identify such character as grape variety, country of origin and alcoholic strength. At the half way point, when the competition moved from white to red wines, the was level pegging at the leader board, so all to play for.

A strong performance from the Hooky team saw them take the lead, and emerge victorious.

The Worshipful Company of Brewers added “Every two years, the Brewers like to enjoy a drink that isn’t beer and come together for the Company’s biennial Wine Tasting Competition (don’t worry, we have an annual Beer Tasting Competition too!). It was a fun night which ultimately resulted in victory for Hook Norton Brewery, who showed that their expertise extends beyond malt, barley and hops, to grapes as well!”
