An exciting new information morning on offer at Hook Norton Brewery, offering the chance to learn from three industry leading professionals about the care and maintenance of your heavy horse.
Bringing in a wealth of knowledge from an experienced team of professionals, this information morning is designed to equip passionate owners and enthusiasts with the tools and knowledge to care for their horse across the coming years with a particular focus on the fast approaching winter and maintenance required in poorer weather. Constructed by a team of heavy horse owners, topics may appear unrelated but all remain hot within the world of Heavy Horse ownership and buying.
We're pleased to be able to offer this fantastic morning for just £35pp to include the three hour information seminar, a burger and drink lunch rounded off by a full brewery tour at 1pm. We do unfortunately have limited availability and so tickets are on a first come, first served basis.
9am - 10am: Talk and presentation from Nicola Read, Nutrition Advisor for Saracens horse feeds.
Nicola has worked as an equine feed advisor for 15 years but her background with heavy horses goes much further with 8 Clydesdales at home. In her career, Nicola has been fortunate to work with a variety of equine breeds and her work see's her regularly advising The Household Cavalry. Despite her varied customer base, Nicola remains passionate about heavy horses.
A look at how best to cater for your horses needs, touching upon balanced feeding of youngstock and providing for your veteran heavy horses as we head into what many fear will be a rough winter with the feed and hay demands of a hot dry summer.
10am - 11am: Talk and presentation from Sally Hodgson of Hook Norton Equine Vets (Senior Vet, BSc (Hons), MA, VetMB, Cert AVP (EM), MRCVS)
Sally completed a degree in Zoology at Liverpool before studying Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge. After leaving Cambridge in 2007 (having successfully graduated) she went straight into equine practice, working for practices in Lambourn and Suffolk before joining HNVG in 2010. In January 2022, Sally became a Senior Vet in the Equine Team.
Sally will be taking on a joint approach with farrier John Benfield to look at shoeing and hoof-care as well as looking at common heavy horse problems to include Sarcoids, CPL and the latest guidelines on vaccinations and worming.
11am - 12 midday: Talk and presentation from John Benfield, DIPWCF.
Covering the hot topics of debate for most heavy horse owners, John has been a farrier now for over 24 years and will talk us through the facts and ideas behind when, and when not to, shoe young horses. Renowned for competing up and down the country in Farriery competitions, John holds many first place wins to his name. Importantly, he is also farrier to the Hook Norton Brewery team and keeps their shires on the road.
