THE BREWERY

You will be guided through the end to end brewing process, tasting the malts and smelling the hops we use to make our award winning ales. We still use much of the original brewing equipment and on the first Sunday of each month we fire up the steam engine – the original powerhouse for the brewery.

THE STEAM ENGINE

One of the most remarkable survivors of time at this iconic Victorian tower brewery is the 25hp steam engine that can drive the machinery, just as it has done for the past hundred years. Installed in 1899 it was used to provide the motive power that the brewery needed to produce its beer and it is believed to be the last steam engine in the country that can still be used for its original purpose.

We run the Steam Engine on the first Sunday of each month about 11.30a.m for an hour.

There are quite a few flights of stairs in the brewery so is not suitable for people with walking difficulties or children under the age of 12 (this includes babes in arms).

For those unable to join the tour The Visitor Centre, Brewery Shop, Malthouse Kitchen, Museum and Shire Horse Stables are easily accessible.
