Today, our friends across the pond in America will be marking their National Beer Day.

Celebrated each year on April 7th, it commemorates the anniversary of the Cullen-Harrison Act of 1933 – a landmark moment that paved the way for the end of Prohibition –  and here in Hook Norton, we’re raising a glass to the enduring appeal of great beer on both sides of the Atlantic.

That pivotal legislation, signed by President Roosevelt with the now-famous words, “I think this would be a good time for a beer,” reminds us of the long and cherished history of brewing worldwide.

Here in the UK, we’re witnessing a fantastic resurgence of interest in traditional cask ale, the very heart of what we do at Hook Norton. Our commitment to brewing exceptional, characterful beers using time-honoured methods continues to resonate with drinkers who appreciate quality and heritage. The strength of the Hook Norton brand lies in this dedication, a legacy built over generations.

We’ve also enjoyed some wonderful collaborations that bridge continents. Through JD Wetherspoon’s real ale festivals, we’ve proudly hosted talented American brewers from the likes of New Realm Brewing (Georgia), Cambridge Brewing Co (Massachusetts), and Ballast Point (San Diego) in our own brewhouse, sharing our passion and expertise.

Adding to our spirit of collaboration, last month our very own Hooky brewer, Andy Thomas, journeyed to Lamplighter Brewery to brew a special beer with former colleague Jamie O’Sullivan, further strengthening the bonds within the brewing community.

So, to all our American brewing friends, Happy National Beer Day! We echo President Roosevelt’s sentiment from 91 years ago: “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”

And closer to home, don’t forget that the UK celebrates its own National Beer Day on June 15th. We encourage everyone to join us in raising a pint of their favourite Hook Norton Brewery beer to celebrate one of the world’s oldest and most beloved beverages. Cheers!
