James Clarke elected Renter Warden of The Worshipful Company of Brewers

At the July Court meeting of Brewers’ Company, James was elected Renter Warden; slightly unusual protocol in that this was done in James’ absence – as it was the day of our Royal Visit by HRH The Princess Royal.

The Worshipful Company of Brewers’ is one of the oldest livery companies, 14th in order of priority, and one where Liverymen must be working in the Industry. The Company is run by an executive team, and the Court effectively are the non-executive directors. As well as running the Hall in Aldermanbury Square, the Company manages extensive property and investment portfolios, all run to support The Company’s charitable objectives.

The Master is elected each year, after having moved through the ranks of Renter Warden, Middle Warden and Upper Warden. It is a great honour for Hook Norton Brewery to have James as Renter Warden, becoming Master in 2029 – if elected of course!

At a recent lunch, Dan Szor, founder of The Cotswolds Distillery, and Master of The Worshipful Company of Distillers, attended as James’ guest. Dan and James have known each other since before the Cotswolds Distillery was founded – their first meeting was to discuss the challenges of trade effluent!

The Brewery shop stocks a range of Cotswold Distillery products, and for the Brewery’s 175th year, a collaborative Rye Whisky, Traitors Ford, was produced. Currently there are some former whisky casks filled with beer, and hidden in the depths of the brewery, quietly maturing away; some of this is intended to be the toasting ale in James’ year as master.
Pictured below are Dan and James, after a most convivial lunch!
