Hook Norton Brewery Unveils New Ale to Commemorate VJ Day 80th Anniversary
Hook Norton Brewery is marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day with a new commemorative brew, VJ80 Anniversary Ale. The beer, which honours Victory in Japan Day, the end of the Second World War, will be available at tonight’s special VJ80 Open Tap event and in select pubs.
The creation of the beer was led by Lead Brewer Ed Clarke, who previously developed the VJ75 Anniversary Ale. The new VJ80 Anniversary Ale is a light red ale with a complex flavour profile, featuring notes of lemon, kiwi, and blackcurrant.
The unique blend of flavours comes from a carefully selected mix of hops from around the world, each chosen to represent a country involved in the conflict. The hop varieties include:
- Admiral from the United Kingdom
- Sorachi Ace from Japan
- US Cascade from America
- Marynka from Poland
- Tettnanger from Germany
- Mistral from France
- Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand
- Summer from Australia
This international combination of hops results in aromas of dark berries and floral notes, creating a fitting tribute to the important anniversary. The VJ80 Anniversary Ale has an alcohol content of 4.5% and will be available in firkins only.
You can be one of the first to try this special brew at the VJ80 Open Tap event tonight, August 15, 2025 – We will be donating 50p from every pint sold to the Royal British Legion – or look for it in participating Hook Norton pubs and discerning free houses.
